Tombee Plantation

Tombee Plantation is a historic plantation house located on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, built between 1790 and 1800. This two-story, T-shaped dwelling features a charming clapboard exterior, a gable roof, and notable architectural elements such as a single-story front portico with four square columns and a two-story rear porch with balustrades. It stands as one of the few remaining antebellum plantation houses on the island, reflecting the region's rich history. The property was significant during the 'Port Royal Experiment' in 1862 and remained with descendants of freed slaves until 1971. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, making it a valuable site for both tourists and researchers interested in American history.
