Globe Tobacco Building

The Globe Tobacco Building, located at 407 East Fort Street in Downtown Detroit, is the oldest tobacco manufacturing facility in the city and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Established in 1871, it played a significant role in Detroit's economy during the late 19th century, becoming one of the largest tobacco manufacturers by the 1890s. The building, designed in a Romanesque style, features distinctive architectural elements such as large arched windows and a prominent entrance archway. After the Globe Tobacco Company ceased operations in 1925, the building was repurposed for various small manufacturers until its renovation in 1984 for office use. It now serves as a hub for tech and small businesses, making it an interesting site for both tourists and researchers interested in Detroit's industrial history and architectural heritage.
