Oslo Kongsgård estate

The Oslo Kongsgård estate, a former royal residence in Oslo, Norway, features ruins that can be explored in Middelalderparken in the city's Old Town. Dating back to the 11th century, the estate showcases classic motte-and-bailey defensive walls from the era of King Harald Hardrada. It was later expanded by King Haakon Haakonsson into a castle-like structure, complete with a great hall and impressive log houses. The estate played a pivotal role in the historical transition of Norway's capital from Bergen to Oslo, before eventually becoming the residence of the Chancellor of Norway in the late Middle Ages.
