Bronx Opera House

The Bronx Opera House, a historic venue built in 1913, is now a boutique hotel located in the Melrose neighborhood of the Bronx, New York City. Originally designed by George M. Keister, this former theater was part of the Subway Circuit and hosted performances by legendary entertainers such as the Marx Brothers, Harry Houdini, and Ethel Barrymore. With a seating capacity of 1,892, the theater featured an ornate Italian Renaissance interior, complete with mural paintings and advanced ventilation systems for its time. Although it has transitioned from a performance space to a hotel, the building's façade remains a notable landmark, reflecting the rich cultural history of the Bronx and its significance in the evolution of American theater.
