Old U.S. Mint vaults (The Granite Lady)

The Old U.S. Mint, completed in 1874 and located at 88 5th Street, includes reinforced vaults and basement space built to secure government coinage. Its iron-framed construction and vaults helped the building survive the 1906 earthquake and fires that destroyed much of the surrounding city. The basement vaults were historically used to store gold and other valuable government property.
