United Shoe Machinery Corporation Building

The United Shoe Machinery Corporation Building, located at 160 Federal Street in Boston's Financial District, is a striking 24-story Art Deco skyscraper built between 1929 and 1930. Designed by architects George W. Fuller and Parker, Thomas & Rice, this historic office building features an elaborately decorated lobby and was once the headquarters of a company that dominated the shoe machinery industry in the United States. Recognized for its architectural significance, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and designated a Boston Landmark in 1983, ensuring the preservation of its unique interior and exterior features.
