1980 MGM Grand fire (site now Bally's)

On November 21, 1980, a fire at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino killed 85 people and injured hundreds; it remains one of the deadliest hotel fires in U.S. history and was widely reported in national news. Investigations identified electrical and smoke-control failures as primary causes, leading to changes in Nevada fire and building codes. The original MGM Grand building later became Bally's Las Vegas after ownership and branding changes. References to the site as "cursed" appear in local commentary and folklore, but the underlying events and their investigations are matters of public record.
