Fort Negley Civil War ruins

Fort Negley is a Civil War–era stone and earthwork fortification begun by Union forces in late 1862 after the capture of Nashville. Much of its construction was carried out by Black troops and conscripted laborers; substantial masonry and earthwork remnants survive as visible ruins. The site is preserved and interpreted within Fort Negley Historic Park.
