The White House - Executive Residence and Reconstruction

The White House was designed by Irish-born architect James Hoban and constructed between 1792 and 1800. British forces set the building on fire in 1814 during the War of 1812, and it was reconstructed and reoccupied beginning in 1817. It serves as the official residence and principal workplace of the president of the United States.
