DAR Constitution Hall

DAR Constitution Hall, completed in 1929 and funded by the Daughters of the American Revolution, is a large classical-revival performance and meeting hall in downtown Washington. The building has hosted concerts, conventions, and political events since its opening and embodies interwar civic performance-hall design. In 1939 the DAR denied permission for African American contralto Marian Anderson to perform at the hall because of segregation policies; she subsequently gave a widely publicized open-air concert at the Lincoln Memorial.
