Oak Lea is a historic 19th-century home located in the Layhill community of Montgomery County, Maryland. This architectural gem consists of three interconnected blocks, showcasing a blend of styles from different periods. The oldest section features a charming clapboarded log structure, while the central and southern blocks exhibit elegant two-story designs. Originally part of an agricultural estate, the property has evolved over the years, with its outbuildings transformed into the Argyle Country Club and golf course in the mid-20th century. Oak Lea serves as a focal point in the adjacent Argyle Village subdivision and was once home to renowned Maryland golfer Roland MacKenzie. The house was nominated for the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, making it a noteworthy site for both tourists and researchers interested in Maryland's architectural history.
