The Russell (Worcester, Massachusetts)

The Russell is a historic apartment house located in Worcester, Massachusetts, built in 1894. It is one of the few remaining apartment blocks from the late 19th century in the Main-Wellington-Chandler area, which was known for its high concentration of such buildings. The four-story structure features distinctive red brick with brownstone trim and showcases Romanesque architectural elements. It was designed by the architectural firm Barker & Nourse and is notable for its historical significance, having been listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Visitors can appreciate its unique design and the rich history of the area, which experienced rapid growth during the 1880s and 1890s.
