Oakdene/Waldene

Oakdene, later known as Waldene and then Bernora, was a grand estate in Roslyn, New York, built around 1900 for executive Walter George Oakman, Sr. Designed by Grosvenor Atterbury, this Colonial Revival mansion featured approximately 32 to 37 rooms and was set on 68 acres of land, complete with farm buildings and a horse stable. The estate changed hands in 1912 when Henry D. Walbridge purchased it and installed a pipe organ. However, after being put on the market in 1935, it was eventually bought by Samuel Rubel in 1946, only to be tragically destroyed by fire the same year. The property was later redeveloped into a housing development called Roslyn Pines in the early 1950s, marking the end of its storied history.
