Hirschholm Palace

Hirschholm Palace, located in Hørsholm municipality near Copenhagen, Denmark, was a magnificent Baroque royal palace built in the 1740s, often referred to as the 'Versailles of the North.' Originally a medieval fortification, it became a summer residence for Danish royalty, particularly under King Christian VI and Queen Sophie Magdalene. The palace is historically significant due to its association with the scandalous affair between Queen Caroline Mathilda and Johann Friedrich Struensee in the 1770s. After falling into disrepair, it was demolished in the early 19th century. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of the palace grounds, including a small church and a local history museum that highlights its rich past and the royal drama that unfolded there.
