YMCA Building, Newcastle upon Tyne

The YMCA Building, completed in 1900, was a notable neoclassical structure located on Blackett Street in Newcastle upon Tyne. Originally established in the city in 1849, the YMCA acquired the site after the demolition of St. James Chapel. The building featured a striking five-stage tower and served as a community hub with a dining room and assembly hall. It was officially opened by Prince Arthur and Princess Louise. The building was demolished in 1969 to make way for the Eldon Square Shopping Centre, marking the end of an important chapter in Newcastle's architectural history.
