MOVE bombing fatalities at 6221 Osage Avenue

On May 13, 1985 Philadelphia police dropped an improvised explosive device on a rowhouse occupied by the radical group MOVE at 6221 Osage Avenue. The explosive ignited a fire that killed 11 people, including five children, and destroyed 61 neighboring homes in the Cobbs Creek area. The city's decision to use explosives and to allow the resulting fire to burn drew widespread criticism and led to multiple investigations and civil settlements.
