Annandale Plantation (Georgetown County, South Carolina)

Annandale Plantation, originally known as Millbrook, is a historic plantation house located near Georgetown, South Carolina. Developed in the 1790s by Andrew Johnston, the main house was built around 1833 in a striking Greek Revival style, featuring a Tuscan portico and intricate window details. The plantation was notable for housing the first tide-operated rice mill in South Carolina and was one of the state's most prosperous rice plantations in the 1850s, employing 230 slaves. The property has changed hands several times, with significant renovations made by the Reeves family, who owned it until 1973 when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can explore the plantation's rich history, including its architectural features and the surviving outbuildings, which reflect its storied past.
