Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)

The Detroit Institute of Arts' current building on Woodward Avenue opened in 1927 and has served as the city's principal art museum since. The museum houses the Detroit Industry Murals by Diego Rivera, a major public-art commission from the 1930s. The DIA's building and collections are central elements of Detroit's early-20th-century cultural infrastructure.
