Archaeological excavations at the Alamo

Archaeological investigations on the Alamo grounds have documented subsurface foundations and features that predate the 1836 battle, including remains of earlier Spanish-period structures associated with the presidio. Systematic digs and monitoring have recovered 18th- and 19th-century artifacts and human burials that informed the site's occupational history. Findings helped refine the understanding of the sequence of construction and use of the Alamo compound over the Spanish, Mexican, and early Texan periods.
