Coit Tower WPA Murals

Coit Tower contains a series of fresco murals painted in 1934 by roughly two dozen local artists working under New Deal art programs. The murals depict scenes of California industry, agriculture and everyday life, and include portrayals of labor and political themes that generated controversy at the time. The artworks were funded through a federal relief program for artists and remain a major example of Depression-era public art in San Francisco.
