Old Bakery & Emporium

Constructed in 1876, the Old Bakery & Emporium at 1006 Congress Avenue is one of Austin's oldest surviving commercial buildings and retains 19th-century masonry construction and storefront form. The building later served multiple commercial uses and was restored and repurposed to house a city-run gallery and gift shop focused on local arts and history. It is frequently referenced in histories of Austin's early commercial architecture.
