Palacio de Carondelet

Carondelet Palace, located in Quito, is the seat of government of Ecuador and a significant historical landmark. Dating back to the colonial era around 1570, it has served various governmental functions, including as the headquarters for the Spanish Crown and later the Republic of Ecuador. The palace is notable for its architectural elegance and has been home to many presidents throughout Ecuador's history. It was named after Barón Francisco Luis Héctor de Carondelet, who oversaw significant renovations in the late 18th century. The palace has undergone various changes and restorations, and while it was opened to the public as a museum during Rafael Correa's presidency, it has since been closed. Visitors can appreciate its rich history, cultural significance, and the surrounding Independence Square, which features other important buildings like the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace.
