First Ward Wardroom

The First Ward Wardroom, located at 171 Fountain Street in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, is a historic meeting hall built in 1886 and designed by William R. Walker & Son. This single-story red brick building features a unique Queen Anne architectural style and is one of only three surviving ward halls in the state, serving as a polling place and community meeting space during a significant period in Pawtucket's history. Since 1920, it has been home to the Major Walter G. Gatchell Post No. 306 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, highlighting its cultural and architectural importance as a reminder of the city's incorporation and governance transition.
