Mütter Museum - Hyrtl skull collection and human specimens

The Mütter Museum, part of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, houses human remains and anatomical specimens used for medical education and public display. Its collections include the Hyrtl skull collection of 139 human skulls assembled in the 19th century and specimen exhibits historically described in museum catalogs. The museum also preserves individual human remains such as the so‑called “Soap Lady,” a body preserved by adipocere, which has been part of its exhibits for decades.
