Liverpool Overhead Railway Southern Extension Tunnel

The Liverpool Overhead Railway Southern Extension Tunnel, also known as the Dingle Extension Tunnel, is a historic unused tunnel in Merseyside, stretching half a mile from Herculaneum Dock to the former Dingle underground railway station. Opened in 1896, it features impressive engineering by Charles Douglas Fox and others, with a unique portal located halfway up a cliff. The tunnel was electrified and designed to accommodate twin tracks, but ceased operations in 1956.
