Second Bank of the United States

The Second Bank of the United States building on Chestnut Street was constructed between 1819 and 1824 and designed by William Strickland in the Greek Revival style to serve as the federal bank's Philadelphia branch. Its Doric-columned marble facade and monumental form exemplify early-19th-century federal bank architecture and institutional infrastructure. The building later housed other banking functions and is now preserved and interpreted for the public as part of Independence National Historical Park.
