Haberkorn House and Farmstead

Located west of Sherrill, Iowa, the Haberkorn House and Farmstead is a historic site showcasing a unique vernacular house type found primarily in northeast Iowa. Built in 1870 by Bavarian immigrants Adam and George Haberkorn, this 2½-story limestone structure features a distinctive front gable and served as both a local tavern and polling place in the late 19th century. The farmstead includes various outbuildings such as a barn, granary, and chicken house, as well as a stone oven used for baking bread. Notably, it also houses a brewery cellar within a natural cave. Recognized for its historical significance, the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, making it an intriguing destination for tourists and researchers interested in Iowa's immigrant heritage and architectural history.
