Gas Works Park (preserved industrial installation)

Gas Works Park occupies the site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company plant on Lake Union and was redeveloped into a public park that opened in 1975, retaining large sections of the plant's machinery as sculptural installations. Designer Richard Haag incorporated the industrial remains into the park's landscape, making the apparatus both a historical artifact and a play/spectator structure. The preserved structures and remnants are documented examples of industrial reuse in urban park design.
