The Rossborough Inn

The Rossborough Inn, located on the University of Maryland's College Park campus, is a historic building dating back to 1803, making it the oldest structure on campus. Originally built as an inn and tavern by land speculator John Ross to accommodate travelers between Baltimore and Washington D.C., it has served various purposes over the years, including a faculty residence and an admissions office. The inn is notable for its Federal architectural style and has undergone renovations, including the addition of lower wings in 1938. It is also rumored to be haunted by ghosts from the Civil War, adding an intriguing element for visitors. The building is recognized as a historic site and features a unique keystone above the entrance depicting the head of Silenus, crafted from rare Coade stone.
