National Archives - the Charters of Freedom in a controlled environment

The National Archives preserves and displays the original 'Charters of Freedom'-the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights-in a climate-controlled Rotunda at this address. Access to the originals is managed for conservation reasons and they are sometimes removed from public display for preservation or study, making direct viewing temporarily unavailable at times. The Archives also holds extensive federal records and offers research access under specific rules and procedures.
