Original Statue of Liberty torch on display

The original torch of the Statue of Liberty was replaced during the 1984–1986 restoration and is now exhibited inside the Statue of Liberty Museum on Liberty Island. The replacement occurred because the original had suffered damage and alteration over time; the museum display documents the restoration process and the torch's conservation history. The Statue of Liberty Museum opened in 2019 to provide indoor exhibits related to the monument, including the original torch.
