Forest Retreat

Forest Retreat is a historic house in Nicholas County, Kentucky, once the home of Thomas Metcalfe, the 10th Governor of Kentucky and a U.S. Senator. Built in 1795, it now operates as a Bed & Breakfast and event venue. The estate features the Metcalfe family burial plot, which includes the remains of Metcalfe and the 1954 Kentucky Derby-winning horse, Determine. The property, which spans 22 acres and includes three contributing buildings, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, making it a significant site for history enthusiasts and tourists alike.
