The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art was founded in 1870 and its main building on Fifth Avenue, facing Central Park, is one of the largest art museums in the world with a collection spanning over two million works. The Fifth Avenue building has been expanded repeatedly since its initial construction in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, creating a complex of galleries and period rooms. The institution also operates The Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park, a separate branch dedicated to medieval European art and architecture.
