Boathouse Row (Victorian rowing club architecture)

Boathouse Row is a continuous group of historic boathouses along the east bank of the Schuylkill River, with many structures dating to the late 19th century and showing Victorian picturesque and Italianate details. The row creates a distinctive waterside streetscape noted for its narrow, gabled clubhouses and decorative wood and masonry work. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains in use by rowing clubs, preserving both recreational and architectural history. The boathouses are a prominent example of historic recreational architecture in Philadelphia.
