Luxor Sky Beam - powerful xenon searchlight on the Strip

The Luxor Hotel & Casino's Sky Beam was activated when the resort opened in 1993 and uses an array of xenon lamps to produce a vertical beam of light visible from many miles away. The installation employs 39 xenon bulbs and is widely cited as one of the most powerful searchlights in the world, requiring coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration. It has served as a prominent technological and visual landmark on the Las Vegas Strip since its debut.
