Grassmere (Nashville Zoo at Grassmere) archaeological investigations

Grassmere Historic Home and Farm, now part of the Nashville Zoo, has been the subject of archaeological fieldwork documenting 19th-century domestic and farm-related features. Investigations recovered artifact assemblages and structural traces that have been used to interpret the lives of the Acklen family and the enslaved and hired workers who lived and worked on the property. Findings have informed conservation of the historic house, the farm landscape, and public programming about the site's history.
