Washington and Georgetown Railroad Car House

The Washington and Georgetown Railroad Car House, also known as the Navy Yard Car Barn or Blue Castle, is a historic Romanesque Revival building located in Southeast Washington, D.C. Designed by Walter C. Root in 1891, it features distinctive towers reminiscent of a medieval castle. Originally serving as a car barn for the Washington and Georgetown Railroad's cable car service, it transitioned to electric cars and later served various purposes, including storage and a bus garage. After years of abandonment, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Recently renovated by the National Community Church, it now functions as 'The Capital Turnaround,' featuring an 850-seat event space, a child development center, and plans for an indoor marketplace, making it a vibrant destination for both tourists and locals.
