Stax Museum (former Stax Records site)

The original Stax Records studio operated at 926 E. McLemore Avenue and served as a major center for Memphis soul recordings in the 1960s and 1970s, producing hits by Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, and Booker T. & the M.G.'s. The Stax Museum of American Soul Music opened at that address to document the label's history and includes a recreated studio and artifacts from Stax artists. The location is commonly referenced locally as 'Soulsville USA.'
