Scholastic Building

The Scholastic Building, located in the vibrant SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan, is a striking 12-story headquarters for the Scholastic Corporation. Completed in 2001, it stands as the first new construction in the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District, replacing a former garage. Designed by renowned Italian architect Aldo Rossi and refined by his disciple Morris Adjmi, the building harmonizes with its historic surroundings while showcasing a modern architectural approach. Its façade features a blend of steel, terra-cotta, and stone, reflecting the classical character of nearby structures, while the rear façade captures the gritty essence of the area. The building's design employs a unique 'kit of parts' methodology, reminiscent of the historic cast-iron buildings of SoHo, making it a fascinating site for both tourists and architectural researchers.
