Morris-Jumel Mansion - Washington's 1776 headquarters

The Morris-Jumel Mansion served as George Washington’s temporary headquarters in 1776 after earlier engagements in northern Manhattan, including the Battle of Harlem Heights. Built in 1765, it is Manhattan’s oldest surviving colonial-era house. The mansion museum interprets its role in the Revolutionary War and Washington’s activities in the area.
