Gilchrist House (Cordova, Alabama)

The Gilchrist House, a historic farmhouse located near Cordova, Alabama, is recognized as one of the oldest surviving structures in the state, dating back to 1812. Built by Edmon Gilchrist, who migrated from South Carolina, this two-story timber frame house was notable for its architectural significance and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Although it was destroyed by fire in the late 1990s, the site remains a point of interest for tourists and researchers, reflecting the rich history of early Alabama settlement and architecture.
