Yancey's Tavern

Yancey's Tavern, a historic site in Sullivan County, Tennessee, dates back to 1779 and is located on the state's first wagon road. Originally built by James Hollis Sr., it became a tavern in 1784 under John Yancey and served as a vital stagecoach stop in the 19th century. The building showcases architectural features from various periods, including hewn logs and poplar siding. After years of neglect, it was restored in the early 2000s and now displays period furnishings and artifacts, including a quilt fragment believed to be made by the Spahr family. The tavern is available for tours by appointment and has hosted events like the Northeast Tennessee Mustang Club's cruise, making it a unique stop for tourists and history enthusiasts alike.
