Hatch Memorial Shell (Esplanade Bandshell)

The Hatch Memorial Shell is an open-air bandshell on the Charles River Esplanade, completed in 1940 and known for hosting the annual Boston Pops Fourth of July concert and numerous free public performances. Its colonnaded stage and acoustically shaped shell were designed for large outdoor musical presentations and have made the site a central cultural venue for waterfront events. The structure and adjacent Esplanade are managed for public recreation and large-scale civic gatherings.
