Marshall Hall, Maryland

Marshall Hall is a historic site in Maryland, featuring the remains of a grand mansion once owned by the Marshall family, located near the Potomac River across from Mount Vernon. Established in the early 18th century, it became a popular picnic destination after the Civil War, attracting visitors via steamship from Washington D.C. and Alexandria. The site evolved into one of the first amusement parks in the D.C. area in the 1890s, hosting events like jousting tournaments and swimming exhibitions. The National Park Service now manages the area, preserving its historical significance and scenic views, although much of the original amusement park was dismantled in the 1980s. Today, visitors can explore the park's rich history and enjoy the picturesque surroundings.
