Old U.S. Mint (The Granite Lady)

The Old U.S. Mint, completed in 1874 at 88 5th Street, is a Greek Revival/Italianate federal building that played a key role in San Francisco's financial history. It famously survived the 1906 earthquake and subsequent fires, allowing it to safeguard significant coin reserves for the city and region. The building later ceased minting operations and has been the subject of preservation and adaptive reuse proposals recognizing its architectural and historic significance.
