Bennett Building (New York City)

The Bennett Building is a historic cast-iron structure located in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City. Designed by Arthur D. Gilman in the French Second Empire style, it features the largest known cast-iron facade in the world and is one of the last remaining Second Empire-style office buildings south of Canal Street. Originally seven stories tall, it underwent expansions in the 1890s, resulting in a total height of 125 feet and ten full stories, including a penthouse. The building is notable for its architectural details, including paneled vertical pilasters and segmental-arched windows. Designated a New York City landmark in 1995, the Bennett Building is a key part of the Fulton–Nassau Historic District, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in New York's architectural heritage.
