Caleb Baldwin Tavern

The Caleb Baldwin Tavern, built around 1763, is a historic house located in Newtown, Connecticut, significant for its role in the movement of French Army forces under General Rochambeau during the American Revolutionary War. It served as a temporary lodging for French officers in June 1781 as they marched to the Siege of Yorktown. The tavern exemplifies traditional 18th-century New England architecture, featuring a two-and-a-half-story wood-frame structure with a distinctive Victorian-era porch. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, it now functions as a private residence, offering a glimpse into the region's rich history.
