San Francisco Armory

The San Francisco Armory at 1800 Mission Street was completed in 1912 as a National Guard facility and is distinguished by its fortress-like, castellated brick exterior and round towers that evoke medieval military architecture. After military use ended, the building was repurposed for a variety of private and commercial uses, including film production, while retaining its distinctive external form. The Armory is frequently cited as a notable example of early-20th-century civic-military architecture in the city and discussions of adaptive reuse.
