The Joyce Theater

The Joyce Theater, located at 175 Eighth Avenue in Chelsea, opened in 1982 as a nonprofit dance venue dedicated to presenting modern and contemporary dance companies. The theater operates a seasonal performance schedule, supports touring and emerging choreographers, and is known for its mission-driven programming that focuses on dance presentation and audience development. Its relocation and preservation of a former movie house helped establish a permanent downtown home for professional dance in New York City.
