Congressional Cemetery

Founded in 1807 as Washington Parish Burial Ground, Congressional Cemetery contains the graves of several members of Congress, government officials, and other notable 19th‑ and 20th‑century figures. It has been the site of funerals, memorial services, and commemorative events for decades and remains an active burial ground. The cemetery is also known for its historic rows of cenotaphs placed for members of Congress. It is managed by a nonprofit that organizes preservation and public programming tied to the site's funerary traditions.
